The Role of a Teacher
I am a passionate life long learner and it is my goal to pass on my passion for teaching, learning, and history to my students. As an educator I feel it is my responsibility to present information to students in a variety of ways and allow them the opportunity to explore and develop their own ideas and opinions. I aim to be a positive role model to my students and recognize the impact I am able to have on their futures. I care about my students as individuals and focus on developing relationships to foster student learning and growth. I believe organization is vital to student success in the classroom and plan lessons according to the needs of my students. I work to identify strengths of my students and aim to build upon those in the classroom, while also, identifying areas of weakness and create opportunities to develop those as well. I work hard to create a nurturing environment where students are encouraged to take risks and develop as thinkers, learners, students, and young people. I am always willing to try new things in the classroom and I work with other educators to develop meaningful lessons. I will continue to take advantage of opportunities to improve as an educator throughout my career.
The Importance of the Classroom Environment
At the core of creating a positive classroom culture are healthy relationships. I aim to create an environment where students feel safe to share opinions, enjoy learning, and develop emotionally, socially, as well as, academically. I have high expectations of my students and myself. It is expected that we all do our best everyday, enjoy learning, and grow as individuals! We are so busy learning in the classroom that there is little time for misbehavior. I recognize that we all make mistakes and am willing to own up to mine, encouraging students to do the same. To foster a positive classroom environment I post student work, celebrate achievements and improvements, offer rewards and incentives, post a quote each day, and keep in touch with parents.
The Aim of Education
It is my aim in education to assist in the molding of well-rounded individuals who are prepared to be successful in future relationships, educational endeavors, careers, and life. I believe my role as a Social Studies teacher is vital to their success in teaching them to think critically, be problem-solvers, develop opinions, and create logical arguments. I believe learning should be enjoyable and seek to teach using a variety of methods in order to help all learners reach their next level. Success in my classroom is students performing to the best of their abilities, taking risks, making mistakes, and learning along the way.
